Inesa Levnell
Based in Västra Götaland, Sweden, Inesa Levnell is developing a contemporary painting practice centred on expressive acrylic portraiture. Her current body of work, Collection I, began in 2026 and is being developed as her first coherent public series.
Her work brings together colour, texture, form and emotional tension. The paintings do not try to tell a fixed story or look photographic. Instead, they create a feeling of presence — something direct, quiet and slightly unresolved.
Her paintings are shaped by large colour areas, visible acrylic texture, simple compositions and a balance between recognisable form and abstraction.
Current Work
Collection I explores distance, tension, control, vulnerability and the gradual reopening of emotional contact.
Each painting stands on its own, while also forming part of a larger body of work.
Artist Statement
My work begins with the question of how much feeling a painting can hold without explaining everything.
My current work is centred on portraits, but the larger question is how colour, image and emotion can meet on one painted surface.
I am drawn to images that feel familiar but not fixed — direct, but not fully readable.
I do not want to tell a clear story. I want to create a painted presence that stays open, human and unresolved.
